3 weeks ago I decided to take the kids for a weekend away camping, the weather wasn’t great but sometimes the great outdoors is all about experiencing changing conditions.
Our current 5 door saloon car wasn’t up to the job of transporting 2 adults 3 children and our camping essentials (I took far to much stuff) so I got in contact with a specialist 4×4 hire company called Car2U to see what it would cost me to hire a 4×4 with more space and comfort for the country roads and in case we ended up stuck in a field ☺.
We ended up hiring a LandRover Discovery (I’m told it’s the king of off road driving, however all I know is it had 7 seats available, a huge boot, heated leather seats and the best bit! It had build in DVD players in the headrests for the kids to keep them entertained on throughout the journey, RESULT!.
The best bit is it only cost me £45 per day, this included insurance!
We ended up camping in a village called Horton in Ribblesdale near the Yorkshire 3 peaks and I have to say some of the scenery was unbelievable as were the cold but enjoyable walks.
The 4×4 was the best part of the trip though, some of the tracks we could get up and see some amazing views that we wouldn’t have been able in our family car were amazing.
It was also a joy, jumping in and feeling the heated seats thaw you out ☺
The cost overall for us, a family of 5 to the Yorkshire 3 peaks, with camping, food and the hire of the 4×4 and fuel was less than £250, it was a great adventure and a world away from the TV and games consoles, the kids loved it.
I highly recommend you give it a try.
Also, the company who we hired the car off were brilliant, they dropped it off and picked it up, were very professional and had a great selection of vehicles at cheaper rate and also more luxurious, but for me the discovery was amazing inside so not sure how much more luxurious you can get.
