How changing the time you shop can save you hundreds
You could be over spending by hundreds of pounds a year by not becoming super savvy.
Shopping at the right time of year is crucial if you want to save money.
Would you buy wellies in summer, flip flops in winter and school uniform the week after the kid’s go back to school? You should be.
Most of us tend to only buy things when we need them, however, if we thought ahead and prepared then this could leave us with an extra few hundred pound at the end of the year.
Clothing – Why not buy your summer clothes in winter? Shops will be reducing their remaining summer stock massively to make way for winter clothing. If you have a holiday coming up then it is the perfect time to buy as the money you have saved could go towards spending money. The same applies to winter clothes, buy them in the summer for maximum savings.
Booking your summer holiday on Christmas day is a huge tip too – the prices drop massively as the demand for booking a holiday on Christmas day is low…
Sun creams – This is reduced massively come October as most holidays are over for the year and the shops will want to clear their shelves of it ready for Christmas gifts. Last year I bought suncream in a clearance sale for 40p PLUS it was buy-one-get-one-free, it is now back on that stores website for £9.99.
School uniform – I was on Good Morning Britain last year talking about how to save money on school uniform. Buying just after the kids have gone back to school can save you ££’s. In October/November school uniform is reduced massively because most people have already bought new uniform for the new term. However, In the past I have got a real bargain on uniforms such as 70% off PLUS 3 for 2 PLUS a £5 off voucher – I was able to kit out my 3 children for school for less than £50!
Hats, scarves and gloves – I ALWAYS stock up on these whenever they are on sale. No matter what I do, within a week of wearing their new gloves, my children will have lost one. I feel as though I am forever buying gloves! If you stock up in the sales, it will save you a good few pound in the long run rather than having to buy them at full price during winter.
Footwear – The same goes for footwear. No one buys Uggs in the summer and no one buys flip flops in the winter. You will be able to get both mega cheap in clearance sales. I remember last year we posted a great deal on footwear (I think it was from Boohoo) and there was pairs of sandals reduced from £14.99 to £1 – a lot of you bought 4 or 5 pair and said you would be putting them away for the following year.
Christmas supplies – In January and February you will find amazing prices on wrapping paper, Christmas cards, ribbons etc. Not only can that save you money, you could also wrap as you buy presents through out the year – Hmmm, no probably not, the intention is there but I bet we’ll never get round to it.
Furniture – Don’t worry about sofa savings – SCS have a sale on all year round, they just give it a fancy new name every couple of weeks. I am talking about garden furniture. Want to buy a table and chairs for the garden in November to eat your Christmas dinner on? No, I wouldn’t think so. However, you can have maximum savings if you do buy during the winter. Again, stores will be trying to clear summer stock to make room for Christmas decorations.
