Tesco Double The Difference Policy

Hi guys, have any of you ever been accidentally overcharged for something in Tesco’s? I know it may be annoying, but what they don’t often tell you is that this automatically entitles you to double the difference!

For example, say you bought a large box of soap powder which was priced at £5 on the shelf, but were charged £10 at the till, then you would receive £5 back for the overcharge, and then another £5 for the DTD policy!

From now on always check your receipts BEFORE leaving the store, as this little trick only works when you have paid and can produce the receipt before you leave.


However, to get the double the difference, you must present the receipt at the customer service desk – So make sure you don’t correct the price while at the till, wait until you have paid and get given your receipt then head to the customer service desk.

Tesco’s website states under the frequently asked question of ‘What shall I do if I’ve been overcharged?’ that in the unlikely event that they charge you more than what is advertised on the shelf edge or on the product, you should visit their customer service desk with your receipt where you will then receive your double the difference refund.

Remember, if you don’t ask then you simply don’t get so make sure you mention the double the difference policy as soon as you get to the till so that the staff member can’t overlook the extra refund you’re owed!

So next time you see you’ve been overcharged at the checkout don’t panic! Not only will you be saving money, but you could be making some in the process!

    Go on Tuesday. That’s when the offers change and the staff forget to take the old labels down.

    Also, it’s not just on their Web site it’s on a notice behind every customer service desk.
