1. PAINTING EGGS
Painting eggs is both easy and affordable. Not to mention a fun activity to keep the kids entertained. Simply boil some eggs, allow to cool (you can do this the night before) and get creative with the kids! You can use a small paint pack and a paint brush set, take it outside to keep mess and stress free!
Cost:
- Paint pack: £2.50
- Large Free Range eggs: £1.99 - £2.10
- Paint brush set: £1.00
2. EGG CARTON CHICKS
How cute?! Now you've painted your eggs, another fun idea to use up the materials you already have at home is to create egg carton chicks. They're cute, easy and will keep the kids entertained for a long time!
Here is a rough guide from BBC goodfood:
-
Cut two cups to make the head and body and cut two triangles from the central pyramid to make the wings
.
- Cut a small diamond from the lid to make the beak.
- Paint the head, body, beak and wings
- Fold the diamond in half and stick it to the head.
- Draw eyes using paint or a marker pen.
- Glue or tape the wings to the body by folding them over the top edge and securing them inside the cup.
- Glue the head on top of the body, over the wings.
This activity is great for involving parents or grandparents and you can even prepare the pieces for the Chick the day before, just get the kids to paint and stick! Having already purchased an egg carton (for the previous activity) and paints, the cost of this activity is virtually zero!
3. EASTER BISCUITS
Who doesn't love a warm Spring day with the fresh smell of baking and the happy sounds of munching in the garden. Baking is a great way to spread smiles and have a tasty treat at the end. It can be both easy and affordable!
There are several ways to approach easter baking:
- Buy premade easter biscuit decorating kits for the kids to decorate from your local shop (Asda do a brilliant easter egg biscuit box including icing)
- buy an easy baking kit or box mix including everything you need to decorate
- Make cookies from scratch (RECIPE HERE)

4. EASTER CLUE TRAIL
The best thing about an Easter trail, is that it can be as high or low effort as you wish! Its fun, affordable and can be done aside from the 'big hunt' on Easter Sunday. Keeping the kids busy in the garden while you get on with life during the holidays has never been easier!
What you’ll need:
- 5–7 handwritten or printed clue cards (paper, card, or recycled packaging)
- A few Easter-themed items (a soft toy bunny, a carrot, a flower pot, a garden gnome, etc.)
- A small reward at the end (e.g., a homemade certificate, a single chocolate treat, or stickers)
How it works:
- Write short rhyming clues leading from one garden spot to the next (e.g., “Hop to where the flowers grow, find a carrot the bunnies know”).
- Tape or peg each clue to a visible spot: fence, plant pot, or garden chair.
- Kids follow the trail of clues to reach the final “Easter Bunny Surprise.”
- You can reuse the clues year after year or laminate them to make them weatherproof!
Budget tips:
- Print clues on scrap paper or cereal box card.
- Use toys, garden ornaments, or even painted rocks as “trail markers.”
- No eggs needed, focus on storytelling and adventure instead.
